Professional Training

In addition to providing a daily training and creation space, in-house training courses, workshops and master classes in circus techniques, Galway Community Circus links our youth and social circus teachers into rich professional development programmes provided through our European partnerships. As currently there is no formal training for youth and social circus teachers or a professional circus training programme within Ireland, we look to our European partners in the Caravan network for these further training opportunities.

Our tutors have participated in Erasmus+ funded training courses for youth and social circus teachers, including Circus Transformation in Action training (2015-16), week-long training courses in Belgium (2015), Spain (2016), Germany (2016) and an Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership project with Cultural Centre PiiPoo from Finland on circus arts and disability. Our tutors have also been involved in the Youth Theatre Training Network, coordinated by the National Association for Youth Drama (NAYD).

Circus Transformation in Action

Circus Transformation (CTF) in Action is the groundbreaking social circus training-for-trainers programme developed by the Caravan network. The training is based on the recently published Guidebook for Social Circus Trainers, which is the outcome of a 5-year European research project carried out by 2 universities, 8 Caravan members and the Caravan office. CTF 2015-2016 training locations include Sweden, Finland, Belgium and Belfast. For more information go to
