  • Circus School

Circus school is like none other! At Galway Community Circus School we don't sit behind desks but up on trapezes. Skipping, rolling, jumping and clowning take precedence! There are no tests or grades, all participation is voluntary and it’s fun!

Galway Community Circus’s accomplished, high-quality circus school programme engages children, young people and adults alike in organised, creative exploration with circus arts. Our programme runs throughout the academic year in twenty-five regular weekly classes, held in our circus hall in Shantalla, Galway. Following a fun, dynamic annual curriculum with specific learning objectives for each age category and creative learning at its heart, our circus school exposes participants to a vast array of circus arts skills and provides rich opportunities for developing and advancing skills.

At GCC circus school you’ll be invited to explore, develop and create with

    • acrobatics – tumbling, acrobalance, pyramids, handstands, trampette, Chinese pole
    • aerial – trapeze, hoop, silks, cocoon, rope/corde lisse, Spanish web
    • equilibristics – tightwire, unicycling, rola-bola, stilt walking, globe, ladder
    • juggling and object manipulation – juggling with balls, clubs, rings, scarves, hats, cigar boxes, diabolo, devil sticks, staff, contact juggling, poi, hula hoop, plate spinning

Policy for Students with Special Needs

Galway Community Circus is open to everyone in the community and our tutors are trained in meeting the needs of students of all abilities including young people with disabilities. We run specially tailored classes, programmes and workshops for families and young people with disabilities. Young people with disabilities are welcome to take part in all our regular programmes, spaces permitting. However, due to the free-flowing nature of some classes we would ask that a parent or guardian first observes a circus class to assess suitability before enrolling a student.
