WIRES CROSSED: HEAD, HEART BALANCE OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS Ecole De Cirque De Bruxelles, Galway Community Circus, The Serious Road Trip Romania and the Université Libre de Bruxelles are looking for 5 artists to form a new professional funambulism ensemble as part of the Creative Europe funded project, ‘Wires Crossed: Head, Heart, Balance.’ THE ENSEMBLE We are currently looking for 5 artists aged 18+ (no upper limit) to form this exciting new funambulism ensemble. This opportunity is aimed at either emerging funambulists, or artists experienced in other forms of equilibristics with strong physical performance skills. Funambulism will be the main circus discipline used in the performance. However, during the creation process we will also work to explore other disciplines to create a show combining circus, visual poetry and physical theatre. For that reason we require artists to have a knowledge of ensemble work and strong body-awareness, and be open to improvisation in dramaturgy and performance. Led by Ecole De Cirque De Bruxelles, the project will run from 2019 – 2022 and include the formation of a new professional funambulism ensemble who will create, produce and tour new funambulism work. A key objective of the project is to promote artistic exchanges between professional artists and amateur performers. The ensemble will create a core artistic piece that will tour to different locations. In the run up to each performance, the ensemble will work in partnership with local amateurs to create additional elements which will then be combined with the core piece to create a unique, site-specific performance. The work will premier as part of the funambulism spectacle for the Galway 2020 ECOC in August 2020 before touring to other locations across Europe, including a performance as part of the Timisoara ECOC 2021. Between January 2020 and August 2021, the ensemble will work with the project’s Artistic Team to devise the new work during creative residencies in Romania, Belgium and Ireland. The Artistic Team is made up of Performance Director Sergi Ots Gil, Choreographer Mariona Moya, Artistic Director Vincent Wauters and Technical Manager Bruno Frenette.
