Our fine young students are back from a week at the Brussels Youth Circus Exchange. During the week of the 7th to the 12th of July, four of our young members set off with two of our tutors for a week long circus skill exchange with around sixty young people from different circus schools. There they are above stilting in the sun!
Our members had an intensive, long week with an average 15hr day of circus workshops in tether-board, stilting and many more. The first day focused on new skills to learn and the four after saw the participants focusing on improving the skills they had learned and building on the ones they already had. While the days may seem arduous our young members said the time flew by as they were having so much fun.
Unfortunately, Galway's famous rain seemed to follow them to Belgium. However, despite having to camp outside in such weather, spirits were high and our young people powered through! (perhaps we are more used to the wether than we think).
The week ended with a show where every child got to perform what they had learned. The week gave our members knowledge of new skills as well as an insight into how other circus schools approach circus activities. Overall, the week provided endless enjoyment and our participants got the chance to meet like-minded people as well as making new friends.
Galway Community Circus would like to thank all the organisers of the youth exchange in Belgium and the European Union Youth in Action Funding for making the exchange possible.
