Transformation through Circus Arts – A New Narrative for Europe: Brussels, June 29th + 30th

  • Published in News

This June 29th and 30th Ecole de Cirque de Bruxelles will host participants coming from 20 different countries as part of a Caravan network seminar – ‘Transformation through Circus Arts – A New Narrative for Europe’. Representatives from Galway Community Circus will be hosting a workshop at the event which aims to highlight the importance of social circus on European values.

Circus Arts have a significant impact on the social, professional and economic transformation of those taking part. Youth and social circus key actors from all around the world will participate in this seminar to share and exchange their expertise and knowledge. Brussels will be at the centre of intensive reflections:  How can circus arts trigger a change in the European society? How can we fight social exclusion, lower school dropouts and unemployment through circus arts?

At this event, Caravan will present the results of the European project CIRCUS+, which aimed to analyse the market needs in order to identify the ideal professional profile in the field of youth and social circus. This project lays down the foundations for the creation of a curriculum for the 1st European degree programme for social and youth circus teachers.

The workshop led by Galway Community Circus will be on Youth and Social Circus Research Methods. This workshop will explore and examine the range of qualitative and quantitative research methods that can be utilised in the youth and social circus fields. The advantages, disadvantages, challenges and opportunities for each method will be analysed from the perspective of real world projects; what might be a great idea in the office might turn out to be terribly difficult once put into practice! Efficiency, rigour and fun will be the principles guiding our discussion and participants will complete the workshop with both a broad knowledge of different research methods and a clear understanding of which method(s) could work for them.

Over the two days there will be several workshops and panel discussions which combined with informal exchanges will provide fantastic networking opportunities for those in the Caravan network to discuss the future of circus in Europe.

Looking forward to seeing our European circus family at the event!
