Galway Community Circus HQ is a little quiet at the moment as it seems almost everyone is at the European Juggling Convention this week. As the biggest Circus Festival in Europe is taking place in Millstreet, Co.Cork, it is of no wonder that many of our tutors, members and some administrative staff have flocked to the rebel county for the event. From the 19th - 27th of July, attendees of the European Juggling Convention will be immersed in all things circus with stage shows by legendary performers from around the world to masterclasses in everything from juggling, hula hoop, acrobatics and many more. It is also a great opportunity to meet like-minded people from all over Europe and beyond.
Yesterday, Tuesday the 22nd, saw a day dedicated to all things Irish. The day started with workshops in Irish dancing and an Irish language exchange. The day ended with an Irish gala show with local and national talents followed by a Ceili Mor. As well as that, the day saw legendary jugglers and Circus performers take to the streets of Millstreet to perform a free street show for the local community.
There is also plenty of things for young people to do with Belfast Circus school hosting an Advanced Youth Circus workshops. These workshops are two hour intensive workshops designed for those with prior experience in circus skills and acrobatics or for those who already have a high fitness level. The workshop will take place for every day for five days (21st-25th of July). As well as that Galway Community Circus along with Realta Entertainment have sponsered a youth outreach programme for the week. The programme will have two sessions each day suitable for ages varying from 6 months old to 77 years of age.
There is so much to still left to see at EJC. Friday the 25th will see two Legends Stage shows where distinguished jugglers will entertain the crowds, for many this will be there first time performing in Ireland. On Saturday the 26th, the convention will head out in Millstreet for a "Retro Traveling Circus" parade followed by games and "Juggling Olympics" at the local GAA hall. The event will close with a stunning gala show which will feature several distinguished artists.
