Our time at the London International Youth Circus Festival

  • Published in News

Last week ten of our youth circus members got the opportunity to perform at the London International Youth Circus Festival and what a time they had! The Festival ran from the 6th to the 13th of July and involved circus schools from the UK, The USA and across Europe.

Our young stars in the making got to perform four times both indoor and outdoors, one such performance take place in the famous Roundhouse Theatre that showcased previous notable circus acts such as Fuerza Bruta. The Festival also gave the young adults  a chance to take part in the various workshops provided by the LIYCF, such as masterclasses in Flying trapeze and balancing.

The festival also held a skill share workshop where our young members got to learn, as well as share, various circus skills with the other youth circuses involved in the Festival. The time in the festival also allowed the participants and their tutors the chance to check out what the city of London had to offer. Throughout the trip they got to see Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Camden Market and take a tour of the Globe Theatre. They also met Stephen Fry randomly, which left them absolutely thrilled but ignited intense jealously in a certain member of our admin staff who was back in Galway at the time!

One of the most enjoyable evenings of the London International Youth Circus Festival was the Culture share night. Galway Community Circus provided the other youth circus with demonstrations of Irish dancing, songs (a remarkable rendition of Molly Malone) and of course, our very unique and loquacious slang! In return our members got to learn a traditional Finnish dance and some Czech songs.

Overall the experience was incredible! It provided our members the chance to learn, share, explore and showcase they're talents to a wider, international audience. Galway Community Circus would like to thank Albert & Friends Instant Circus and all those at London International Youth Circus Festival for this incredible opportunity.
